Dan Mason

Deputy Program Director
for Engineering

Dan Mason is the Department of Defense Technologies (DoDT) deputy program director for Engineering supporting the NIF & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate. He is also project manager for a laser development project within the DoDT program.

Mason has over 20 years of experience in engineering and management roles developing lasers and other opto-mechanical systems. He joined LLNL in 2000 as a Summer Scholar supporting NIF and became a full-time engineering staff member in 2003.

Mason previously held a variety of engineering roles in NIF primarily supporting the Final Optics System. In addition, he was the lead engineer for the High-Repetition-Rate Advanced Petawatt Laser System (HAPLS) project. More recently, Mason held lead engineer, project engineer, chief engineer, and project manager roles for several laser development projects within the DoDT program.

Mason earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and his M.S. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
