Visitors can now get a look inside the National Ignition Facility with tours either in person or virtually.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is located off Vasco Road, near Interstate 580, in Livermore, California, about 50 miles east of San Francisco. Get maps and directions.

Virtual Tours

With the virtual tour program, instead of gathering in NIF’s lobby, visitors gather online with a tour guide, who takes the group deep inside the facility with a guided virtual tour.

This guided virtual tour takes visitors through the regular highlights of the in-person route, such as the laser bays, Control Room, and Target Chamber. While a virtual tour can’t replace the feeling of walking around the facility, a silver lining is the ability to offer new experiences, like flying above a laser bay, seeing the inside of the Target Chamber, and venturing deep into one of the four capacitor bays that power NIF shots.

The NIF guided virtual tour is open to everyone—partners, university and school groups, professional organizations, and the general public. To schedule a virtual tour, contact:
