Getting Ready to Resume Shots
A field supervisor performs a final walk-through of Roving Mirror Diagnostic Enclosure (RMDE) 1 at the end of a facility maintenance and reconfiguration period in preparation for the resumption of target shots. This enclosure is normally filled with argon gas, and is only purged once or twice each year to allow personnel access. Located at the end of Laser Bay 1, the RMDE enables NIF operators to send laser beams to precision calorimeters to calibrate the main laser energy sensors. Credit: James Pryatel
