NIF/Jupiter User Group Meeting

About the NIF/Jupiter User Group Meeting

The 192-beam National Ignition Facility (NIF), the most energetic inertial confinement fusion (ICF) facility in the world, is now operational. The Jupiter Laser Facility (JLF), a set of four individual tabletop-sized laser-target irradiation facilities ideal for individual investigator research and student training, complements the NIF. The combination of NIF and Jupiter represents the most sophisticated, energetic and diverse set of high-energy-density science research tools in the world available at one site.

To provide further information regarding scientific opportunities at NIF and Jupiter, a meeting of the NIF/Jupiter User Group will be held Sunday, September 6, 2009, from 9AM-4:30 PM at the Hotel Intercontinental in San Francisco, immediately preceding the  Inertial Fusion Sciences and Applications (IFSA) Conference. The meeting is open to IFSA attendees and is meant to describe NIF's and Jupiter's capabilities to current and potential users and obtain feedback regarding how these facilities may best be deployed to meet the needs of the national and international user community. This meeting is also meant to support the 2009 proposal calls from Jupiter and NIF; the NIF call will be issued shortly before the Inertial Fusion Sciences & Applications (IFSA) conference.
