APT - Facilities

KW lab

kW Lab

The kW technologies laboratory is a well-equipped testbed dedicated to high power laser development. This facility was employed for the development of both the Mercury and HAPLS lasers as well as supporting our recent high energy BAT laser research.

Hill lab equipment

HILL

The High Irradiance Laser Laboratory (HILL) consists of a Ti:Sapphire CPA (chirped pulse amplification) laser system producing short pulses (≤50 fs) at 800 nm wavelength at repetition rates up to 10 Hz, with an advanced control system and diagnostics designed to diagnose the laser performance on each laser shot up to 10 Hz. The HILL is a platform for repetition-rated testing of laser and diagnostic technology. It supports repetition-rated experiments (diagnostic testing, plasma optics, machine learning), laser component prototype testing, and configuration of laser beam diagnostics prior to experimental campaigns at other laser laboratories.

Other facilities:

APT houses some of the world's most advanced research labs for high power laser development and our research is deployed at other facilities both within and outside LLNL.
