About the NIF and Jupiter Laser Facility User Group Meeting

The NIF and Jupiter Laser Facility (JLF) User Groups will host a joint meeting Sunday, January 31, 2016, through Wednesday, February 03, 2016, in Livermore, CA. The meeting will describe NIF’s and JLF’s capabilities to current and potential users and will include presentations about capabilities and recent experiments.

The 192-beam National Ignition Facility (NIF) is the world’s most energetic inertial confinement fusion (ICF) facility. The NIF laser’s unprecedented power, precision, and reproducibility, coupled with more than 50 available diagnostics and sophisticated target fabrication capability, enable a wide range of leading-edge scientific experiments. Initial experiments in areas such as materials science, nucleosynthesis, and astrophysical shocks have been conducted. Visit Lasers Home Page.

The Jupiter Laser Facility at LLNL consists of several laser systems with diverse capabilities. Laser time at Jupiter is provided through an open, competitive peer-review process. Users come from more than 90 institutions worldwide and more than 140 of Jupiter’s 500 users are students. Visit Jupiter Laser Facility.
