Measuring Neutrons and Protons
NIF Target Area Operator Mike Morris installs a particle time-of-flight (PToF) detector/wedge-range-filter (WRF) proton spectrometer snout in a diagnostic instrument manipulator for a high-density carbon (diamond) symmetry capsule shot. Developed in a collaboration between NIF&PS and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the PToF and WRFs measure the spectrum and timing of neutrons and protons produced during NIF experiments (see
