ABSTRACT: Optics – Friends and Foes
Optical components and optical assemblies of various configurations are designed, fabricated and then utilized in various laser systems and applications with targeted functional and performance requirements. They are meant to be friends but could be foes if we do not understand their characteristics and their purpose even within a seemingly simple laser test setup. Typical characteristics of optics commonly found in laser laboratories and laser processing facilities and potential hazards during their use will be discussed.

- Held several scientific, management and engineering roles across research and industry (Centre for Research in Earth and Space Technology, Teledyne Geospatial, VLOC, CVI, Edmund Optics)
- Member of the Advanced Applications Engineering Group at Edmund Optics with the secondary role as the Global LSO; being with Edmund Optics since 2016
