The goal of the presentation is to encourage laser safety programs to take a hard look at the training of new staff through On the Job Training (OJT). Especially concerning safety awareness and the difference between safety rules and appreciation of actual user risk. Ken has spent 30 years in the laser safety field. He has served as the LSO for Lawrence Berkeley Nat Lab and National Ignition Facility. He has authored 12 textbooks on Laser Safety. He does a quarterly column on laser safety for Photonics Spectra. He has served as the laser safety adviser for LIGO, ELI Beamlines, Allen Institute, KLA and others. Originator of the DOE LSO Workshops and lead the first 7. Drafted DOE Special Operations Report on Laser Safety. Rockwell Award winner, LIA Fellow and Senior Member IEEE & SPIE. ANSI Committee member. Serves on UL, SAE and IEEE standard committees. Presently doing laser safety as Laser Safety Solutions.
