ABSTRACT: ELI Beamlines – Facility Operation and Lessons Learned
This talk presents practical laser safety experience from ELI Beamlines, a high-power laser user facility in the Czech Republic.
Several real incidents are discussed, including bypassing safety systems, ignoring warning signs, non-compliance with laser safety eyewear, and cases where safety measures had to be adapted to actual operation. These examples highlight the gap between defined procedures and real behavior in a complex, multi-user environment.
The focus is on lessons learned and on practical measures that improved safety, including both technical solutions and changes in organization and user management.

BIO: Ondřej Cibulka
Ondřej Cibulka leads laser safety at ELI Beamlines in the Czech Republic, part of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI), a European user facility operating some of the most powerful laser systems in the world.
He holds a PhD in Plasma Physics from the University of West Bohemia and has a background in experimental laser physics, with experience with high-power and ultrafast laser systems.
In his current role, he is responsible for laser safety in a high-power, multi-user environment. His work focuses on hazard evaluation, implementation of safety controls, and supporting researchers working with complex laser systems.
