Dayne Fratanduono
Deputy Director for Capabilities
Dayne Fratanduono is deputy director for capabilities at the National Ignition Facility and the lead for enhanced laboratory fusion and applications capability within the Weapons Physics and Design (WPD) Program of the Strategic Deterrence organization. Fratanduono is also LLNL’s lead for the Enhanced Yield Capability project, a proposal to upgrade NIF.
Fratanduono’s expertise includes high energy density physics, inertial confinement fusion, equation of state studies, dynamic ramp compression, and dynamic x-ray diffraction studies. Before his current role, Fratanduono led the JASPER program with WPD. He served on special assignment in Washington, D.C., as a technical adviser to the Office of Experimental Science (NA-113) within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Fratanduono received the Sproull University Fellowship from the University of Rochester, the Frank Horton Fellowship at Rochester University’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics, and numerous NNSA Defense Programs Awards of Excellence. He completed a certificate in national security affairs from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
